Rev John G Fisher
Our family is a bit of an anomaly, for we are all natives of Orlando. I was born at Orlando Air Force Base, Becky was born at Orange Memorial and our children were born at Arnold Palmer Hospital and Florida Hospital. To say I have watched our area change is an understatement. I remember learning to milk cows at Eunice Dairy at what is now the intersection of 441 and Lee Rd.
I grew up attending College Park United Methodist Church where my parents were charter members. Becky grew up at First United Methodist of Orlando, where we attended worship services after we were married. Both Becky and I graduated from Edgewater High School. We met while I was working for her father at Palmer Feed Store. While we both graduated from F.S.U., Becky originally attended Tulane and transferred to F.S.U.. We were married in August of 1989.
Coming out of F.S.U. I began working for Piccadilly Cafeteria in Jacksonville, FL. After three years, I returned to F.S.U. to complete my degree in Business Administration. After graduation, I began working for the Central Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America. I worked there for thirteen years serving as a Field Director/Program Director. In the process, I began to respond to my call to ministry and started classes at Asbury Theological Seminary in Orlando. Upon graduating from ATS, I was appointed to Mims United Methodist Church where we served for eight years before being appointed in 2012 to FUMC Apopka. Becky has a Masters Degree in Library Science and has worked in both the school system and as a research librarian for the Orlando Sentinel. She is now working as a librarian with the Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences.
Along the way, we had three children; Hillary, Grayson and Leslie Anne. Hillary is studying at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, attending on an academic and swimming scholarship. She is currently majoring in journalism and media. She had quite an exciting internship during the summer of 2012 covering the 2012 Summer Olympic games in London. Grayson graduated High School in the spring of 2012 and attends Seminole State College. He also obtained the rank of Eagle Scout in the fall of 2011. Leslie Anne studies at Avalon School.
I am an avid fisherman, enjoy reading and relaxing with the T.V. Becky enjoys reading and all things outdoors. While it was hard to leave the people of Mims UMC, we are very happy to be serving at First UMC of Apopka and following the path that God has placed before us.
God Bless!
